Located 15 km off Sandakan coast in the Sulu Sea, Lankayan is a small island completely covered in white sand and tropical vegetation. Protected area withdrawn from fishing by the government in 2003, the waters of Lankayan present a very high marine biodiversity. Nearly 400 varieties of coral, many invertebrates (sea anemones, starfish, nudibranchs) and a host of fish including rays, barracudas, sharks. The island serves as a nesting ground for two species of sea turtles.

This itinerary is only done as an extension of the main tours.

Day 1 - Sandakan - Lankayan 

(Petit déjeuner, déjeuner, dîner)

After breakfast, transfer to the port of Sandakan by van. From there, we embark at 10 a.m. on our shuttle boat which transfers us to the island of Lankayan, located 15 km off the coast of Sandakan, in the Sulu Sea. We will dock after 1 hour 15 minutes to reach our lodge, the only construction on this small tropical island. Accommodation in a bungalow. Meals on site. Afternoon free to rest or discover the beautiful seabed. Lunch at the lodge.

The hotel has diving equipment.


Day 2 -  Lankayan

(Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

After our breakfast we will alternate observation of the marine fauna (snorkeling), observation of sea birds, a small inventory of the birds of the island, swimming and relaxing. The island is also a sanctuary for sea turtles, and houses a nursery to protect the eggs from predators. With a little luck we will witness a laying or hatching of the eggs. All meals are taken at the lodge.


Day ​3 - Lankayan - Sandakan  

(Breakfast)

After breakfast, boat transfer to Sandakan. From there, a shuttle will take you to the airport for your return flight.

The island is virgin, having not undergone human occupation for a long time. The only construction is the lodge built in 1996 and which mainly attracts divers, who find there one of the best sites in Malaysia. Visa :

Most foreign nationals do not need a visa for a stay of less than three months in Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. They must imperatively be in possession of a passport with a validity of at least six months after the date of end of stay and a return or onward ticket.

Health

No vaccination is required unless you are arriving directly from Africa or South America, where in this case you will need to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
