Immersion in the Malaysian Jungle
3 days 2 nights or 4 days 3 nights
A small eco-lodge and research center located about 14 km by boat in the remote jungles on the borders of Thailand, Ulu muda is a particularly important site for Malaysia's megafauna. It is still a relatively unknown site, even for Malaysians, an off-the-beaten-path destination.
This itinerary is only done as an extension of the main tours.
Day 1 - Langkawi - Ulu Muda
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Departure from Langkawi by ferry very early in the morning towards Kuala Kedah, then transfer by van to the Tasik Muda pier where we have our lunch before crossing the lake and then going up the river by canoe to the eco-lodge. After the discovery of the place, a tea and a briefing, we leave for a first drift on the river then spend our first evening under the stars surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
Day 2 - Hiking and caves
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
After breakfast, we go hiking in the heart of the jungle to visit a cave. On the way back, we have our lunch by the river. Back at the lodge, we enjoy a well-deserved tea before leaving to see a mudflat, muddy ground that attracts many animals that come to look for mineral salts, and make a survey of the camera trap. We finish the day by drifting on the river to observe birds and elephants, before returning to the lodge for the evening meal.
Day 3 - Departure
(Breakfast, lunch)
We take the boat back in the morning, go down the river and cross the lake to arrive at the vehicle which will take us back to Penang airport where we take a flight to Kuala Lumpur.
Or for the 4 days 3 nights version :

En chemin nous traversons une source d’eau chaude. Retour au lodge pour le repas de midi, puis après un temps libre où nous profiterons de la rivière pour nous rafraîchir, nous repartons pour une dérive sur la rivière pour observer la faune.
Day 4 - Departure
(Breakfast, lunch)
We take the boat back in the morning, go down the river and cross the lake to arrive at the vehicle which will take us back to Penang airport where we take a flight to Kuala Lumpur.

A small eco-lodge and research center located about 14 km by boat in the remote jungles on the borders of Thailand, Ulu muda is a particularly important site for Malaysia's megafauna. It is still a relatively unknown site, even for Malaysians, an off-the-beaten-path destination.
After the van ride to the pier, we will travel by boat for almost two hours, first on Muda Lake and then along the Muda River to arrive in this small island of human activity surrounded by jungle. From the eco-lodge we will do short day hikes to newly discovered caves, to observation caches near mudflats, and along the clear, cool water river. In the morning and late afternoon we drift by boat along the river in search of elephants.
